I read of firefighters, police officers, nurses and doctors who risk their life to save the life of a stranger. I know of friends who would lay their life on the line to save a friend in trouble.
I know many times we feel just average and that we lack the super power to be a hero. If you want to save the day and change the world, each of us must look within their heart. True monumental change comes from inner emotional strength. We may not be physically stronger than the obstacles in our lives but by turning within strength can be found to carry on until another day. We need to make a decision today to be better. Often, even lovers settle for someone less than in a relationship because they feel they cannot do better.
I am here to say that we can do better. You too can be a hero in this super year. This adventure starts with an individual. What would it take for you to change just one part of your life? I know what it took for me… the motivation and advice of friends.
The love of these normal people transforms the ordinary into the heroic. One such man is my web developer. I never thought much about the work of building a website from the ground up until we met at a laundry mat in Rochester, Minnesota. Amidst the bubbles and hot air, we brainstormed for ideas and established the framework for this site.
Ideas, much like laundry soap, can clean away old dirt and grim; fears and setbacks. I never thought it would be possible to accomplish something as huge as an entire website but step by step we managed to carry the load to the finish line. I hope you enjoy the final product.
Where do you find heroes? Sometimes, they are closer than you think. My roommate is a hero that has helped me overcome many of my fears and frustrations. I had thought about moving out of Rochester for many years, but had never been courageous enough to make the big move. His insistence and belief in my ability allowed me to take the necessary steps to leave a part of my past and begin a new adventure.
Just around the bend and through the woods live my friends Prada Diamond and Violet Femme. They are two working class girls who have shown me that through hard work and dedication one can rise above the challenges and problems of life.
My sister Teri Cloth Jones is another of my heroes. She went from a poor street walker to an adjunct professional entertainer in two shakes of a lamb’s tail. I am also in awe of my daughter Carrie Mehome Jones, who single handedly has kept the Wisconsin dairy industry afloat by her consumption of chocolate milk. Laci Brassiere Jones, a rural vixen in her own right, has shown me that youthful enthusiasm for fun can turn a frown upside down.
Heroes come in many sizes. I do say that size matters, and that each of us is just the right size for being our own superhero. My fans, with all their personality and panache, are heroes to me as well. Keep up the good work and fight the brave fight kids because Momma is right behind you.
I want to thank everyone for their support in my new endeavors. A special thanks to the leadership and members of Gay and Lesbian Community Services of Rochester, the Rochester Girls Inc, the Ultraglam Show Lounge and the Professional AIDS Network for playing a part in my memories of Rochester. I will always cherish my past because it is where my roots are planted but I will never allow my fears to hold me back. This spring as the rains come and the flowers bloom, remember you too can change and all you have to do is get a little wet!
As always,
Love,
